Licensing schemes in South Holland

South Holland District Council operates the national mandatory scheme. We found no additional or selective licensing scheme in force or proposed as of September 2026. Councils can introduce one after a public consultation, so it is worth setting an alert.

Licence fees

The published fee for a new HMO licence is £1,050, and £1,050 to renew. Fees can depend on the number of occupants or lettings, and they are reviewed each year.

Fee is charged in two parts: a Part A fee of £300.00 for initial application and processing (covers administration, initial processing and inspection - no further work begins until paid), plus a Part B fee of £150.00 per unit of accommodation (bedroom), payable once the Council confirms the application can proceed, to cover ongoing administration and enforcement. The same £300 + £150-per-unit structure applies to renewals. For a typical 5-bedroom HMO this totals £1,050 (£300 + 5 x £150). These are the Council's adopted 2026/27 fees, set out in a single Enforcement Policy shared across the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership (South Holland, Boston and East Lindsey), effective from 1 April 2026.

Check the current fee on the council website (sholland.gov.uk) before you apply.
